Your questions, our answers

DV (Domain Validation) certificates generally take a few minutes or a day at most to be validated by the Certificate Authority (CA). Only domain name ownership is verified.

OV (Organization Validation) certificates typically take 1-2 days to validate since it involves a final verification call, locality verification, company authentication and domain verification.

EV (Extended Validation) certificates take up to 5 – 7 days, as the CA conducts more extensive vetting before issuance. Obtaining your certificate may take longer if other documents are required.

If you plan to sell a product, create a website with followers and need to communicate securely online, then, YOU will need an SSL certificate. SSL certificates build trust on every website that implements it.

With the new update of Chrome 68 browser, every website without SSL Certificate carry the “Not Secured” warning. Google rolled out this update at the beginning of July 2018 to fight against phishing attacks and scams on the web.

Having an SSL Certificate builds trust between the user and your website. Without this trust, users may not stay on your website and it will risk the overall reputation of your business.

SSL certificates ensures encryption of sensitive information such as credit card details, usernames and passwords sent to your server. If it is not encrypted, any computer in between your website and your server could intercept this information without you knowing. SSL encryption protect websites from hackers and fights against identity theft.

SSL Certificate also boosts websites SEO. Google announced that websites with a trusted SSL certificate will rank higher in their search results.

Domain Validated (DV SSL) Certificates: The Certificate Authority (CA) checks ONLY if an applicant owns a given domain name. No thorough vetting of the organization is conducted and no information is displayed next to the URL except for the secure padlock icon and "https".

Organization Validated (OV SSL) Certificates: In place to weed out illegitimate companies. OV certs require a few more steps than DV certificates and is the second tier of certificate authentication. In addition, the vetted organization information is displayed next to the URL when clicking on the padlock.

Extended Validation (EV SSL) Certificates: The Certificate Authority (CA) conducts thorough vetting of an applicant and his business before granting a certificate. It is the only certificate which displays the company name and the colour GREEN in the address bar.

Certificate signing request (CSR) is an official form generated by your server. The Certificate Authority (CA) must get the CSR from a website owner before site validation.

CSR formal request is a string of text, generated by your unique server. It’s important to know what kind of software the server you use runs on.  In case you don’t know, ask your hosting provider.
